SPACEBASE Designer Diary - 2. From Drawing to Space
A project doesn't end when the design is done. In fact, the time when the most decisions pile up often begins after that. The moment you first step onto the site, the space stops being lines on a drawing and turns, one by one, into something real with actual dimensions and heights. As each wall goes up, the ceiling structure takes shape, and a finish sample sits under real light, the designers repeat the work of closing the gap between drawing and reality. What the drawing never showed reveals itself there. In this piece, we follow what happens on site, from the start of construction through to completion.

To someone it may be a single drawing, but to a designer it is closer to a small record, layer upon layer of choices and revisions. The Questions We Always Ask at the First Meeting
For SPACEBASE, a first meeting is less about organizing requirements and more about drawing out, together, the ideas that haven't yet been put into words. We start by understanding why this project began and what context surrounds it. SPACEBASE sees the first design proposal not as a mockup made to be shown, but as the first structure that becomes the reference point for every design and decision that follows. What SPACEBASE listens for most carefully in early meetings is not taste or references, but the questions that exist before them.
